A healthy attic breathes. Cooler air enters low, at the eaves through intake vents, and warm air rises and leaves high, at the ridge through exhaust vents. That continuous flow carries heat and moisture out of the attic before they can build up. The balance of intake and exhaust is what makes it work; having one without the other does not move the air the way it should. The fix is to add or clear whichever side of the airflow is missing or blocked, and balance intake at the eaves with exhaust at the ridge so the attic actually breathes. Where moisture has already caused damage, that is addressed too. Ventilation works alongside a watertight roof, not instead of one, so if a leak is also feeding the attic, it gets closed.
